Please read this message from David Howard, Group Committee Commissioner, 7th Aldershot Scout Group.
To all 7th Aldershot Scouting Families:
We are invited to participate in the church service at East Plains, Sun Feb 25th 2024, 10:30 to 11:45. This service has been known as "Founder's Day" (in honour of Lord Baden Powell whose birthday was Feb 22nd, and of Lady Baden Powell, co-founder of the guiding movement, same birthday). It is also known as BP Day, Thinking Day, or simply "church parade". In modern times, it is our opportunity to thank our sponsor, East Plains United Church. The congregation loves to see us with our youth members, all in uniform!
Although East Plains is a United (Christian) church, the service will be about fellowship, not "hard religion". The church, the congregation, and of course all scouting members, are welcoming to persons of all faiths, and to those of no professed faith. Typically in our service there will be acknowledgements of our land and nature, with a suitable children's story and songs. Youth will be invited to participate as appropriate, including carrying the Canadian and Scouting flags into the sanctuary. As East Plains does not currently offer Sunday School, youth will remain in the sanctuary for the entire service.
